OCT 2009 Stand Up, Take Action - A Movement to Eradicate Poverty

 

The African Diplomatic Corps (ADC) led by the Dean, H.E. Mr Jean-Christian OBAME, together with other African Ambassadors and Diplomats, participated in one of the many Stand Up, Take Action event, which was held on October 16, 2009 in front of the UNU headquarters building in Shibuya. More than 3000 Stand Up events all over the world were conducted within one week as a call and a global movement to eradicate extreme poverty and achieve Millennium Development Goals.

 

All in all, a total of 173, 045, 325 people participated and broke the world record for the largest mobilization of human beings in recorded history as certified by the Guinness World Records.

 

Ambassador Obame made a speech calling everyone to work together to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, to achieve universal primary education, to promote gender equality and empower women and other issues to achieve MDGs. (Please click here to read the full text of the Dean’s speech.)
